Steve Rogers is Chief Digital Officer of Reach Plc where he is responsible for all Digital products. Reach Plc is one of the largest British news, magazine and digital publishers, with over 250 national and regional titles. Prior to this Steve was at Google for 9 years where he led global teams; his key roles were the leadership of the design of Publisher Products; AdSense, DFP Ad Exchange & Admob. The Emerging Markets Team, responsible for the design of products for next billion user markets, such as a payments platform pilot, low bandwidth versions of Google photos, and mapping local businesses. Thirdly the privacy team with products such as the Account Dashboard, offering transparency and choice to users.
Steve’s career started as an industrial designer and after working in the Gillette research labs for the Braun brand, Steve left England to work for Philips Electronics in 1986. Continuing his career with Philips, he moved to Vienna in 1989 and to California in 1996 to help establish the Multi-Media incubator centre in Silicon Valley.
His last position with Philips was as Design Director USA with responsibility for all Philips Design studios in the U.S.A. Steve then took the position of VP Product Development at Razorfish in San Francisco, he had global responsibility for the design of physical and service-related products.
In August 2001 he joined the BBC as Head of Design & Navigation, after re-launching BBC.co.uk and BBC interactive TV he was appointed Head of Production and Development where he led all the technical, content, and UX teams who create the core BBC digital services. After leaving the BBC in 2006, he joined British Telecom where he formed the strategy for BT’s wide range of rapidly converging digital products.
